About the project Teaching with Objects (TWO)

Teaching with Objects originated as an Erasmus+ Cooperation Partnership in Higher Education project (2022-2024).

The project was initiated in  the Universeum network by members of the Working Group Digital Initiatives. It brought six partners together:

  • Université de Strasbourg – Jardin des sciences

  • Universita Degli Studi di Padova – University of Padua Museum

  • Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin – Coordination Center for Scientific University collections in Germany

  • Dutch Foundation for Academic Heritage (Stichting Academisch Erfgoed – SAE)

  • Universiteit Gent – GUM (Ghent University Museum)

  • Things That Talk Foundation

The objective of this Erasmus+ project was to foster and support innovative Object-Based Teaching and Learning (OBTL) methods and practices used in digital and hybrid didactic situations.

How? By collecting, evaluating, enhancing and sharing concepts, methods and tools for teaching with academic heritage objects, mainly in higher education.

This work has been done in close cooperation with members of the Universeum network, curators, teaching practitioners and students.

The “Teaching with Objects” platform constitutes one of the outcomes of the project and is designed as a sustainable tool for object-based teaching. In the continuity of the project, it establishes today an active network, a community of practice, supporting teaching with objects from university museums and collections.

Through the contribution of professionals, the platform supports, accompanies and promotes the network’s activities. The platform is currently moderated by a common working group  of the Universeum and UMAC/ICOM professional networks, composed of founding members of the project, and funded by UMAC.
